Meditation Defined

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

Meditation is the art of being present and aware of what is happening in that moment. Most people think meditation of having to be this monk like person and sage burning everywhere, sitting in some orange robe. Most people overlook the true purpose which is to sit and face yourself. Simply looking in the mirror is not efficient enough. You must go beyond what your eyes see and look with your “eye”. If you want to grow in all aspects of your life, then you must learn to master your relationship with yourself. Meditation is the first step towards this. By meditating you can separate yourself from your physical self and become the observer of yourself. To which you can begin to process your thoughts. Your thoughts and emotions occur outside of who you are.

Meditation should not be seen as something where your mind MUST BE QUIET. That is a very hard thing to do as thoughts come into our minds automatically and most often unconsciously. Meditation is learning how to sit with your thoughts and reflect on them. Meditation is learning that the noise inside your mind is just that “noise”. It is not who you are but projections and reflections of your emotions.

We have up to 50,000-70,000 thoughts a day!!! So, to think it is necessary to quiet your mind is absurd and can often be impossible. Meditation is about what you do to return to yourself when your mind begins to wander. Meditation is both easy and difficult and varies on the person, their meditating environment, and blocked chakras.

WHERE SHOULD I MEDITATE?

I suggest you chose and designate a room in your house or a spot out in nature where it is calm and quiet. Make sure this space is free of clutter and is clean. Clutter can clutter your mind even though it is not inside your mind. If you are unable to find a space to meditate then make one. Clean your room, clean up an area of the house for your meditation. Find a park that is open and wide. I have found that meditation under and against tree trunks is the most calming (there will be ants and bugs).

If you are good at tuning out the things around you, you can learn to meditate anywhere. When I go to the gym I meditate in the sauna. Even though there are others having conversations around me I cannot hear them. I know there are speaking words, but I know their words are not my own therefore I do not recognize them in my mind. My mind is clear only to my thoughts.

WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR DURING MEDITATION?

I would highly suggest you experiment with nude meditation in your room or designated place for meditation if possible. Being in the nude allows you to become physically vulnerable and allows for clear reflection. Clothes can be a way for us to shelter ourselves in fear of being seen or having to face ourselves. Sometimes you must revert back to your more natural ways to reach your higher selves. If you are not able to meditate nude then wear very loosely fitting clothing.

Wearing restrictive and tight clothing can cause too much focus on your clothes and not the true task. If you do not have any clothing that is less restrictive you can use a thin bed sheet. Most of us have that laying around. Simply drape it over your body.

You can also wear healing crystals, Copper jewelry and or solid gold jewelry. Copper and Gold react to our magnetic fields and can also help amplify your energy.
